Dry fire training is essential for maintaining your shooting skills, especially when you can’t get to a range as often as you’d like. Unfortunately, though, some dry fire drills are really boring. That’s why I contacted my friend, Mike Ox, for two dry fire drills to keep me actively training during these cold winter months.
In Ohio, you do not have to retreat if an intruder enters your house and threatens you or someone in your family. You must believe that the force was necessary to prevent injury, loss, or risk to life or safety. Do you ever train for a home invasion? I contacted trainer Andrew Blubaugh for some dry fire training ideas for a home invasion.
First I wrote “Home Invasion Dry-Fire Practice,” with tips from firearms instructor Andrew Blubaugh of Apex Shooting and Tactics. When we first discussed the topic, he recommended creating a part two to give options for turning the dry-fire training into live-fire. So here it is, home invasion live-fire practice on the range.
Sometimes, when people become interested in shooting firearms, the first thing they want to do is head to the range and start shooting. If this is just a one-time thing to “try it,” I guess I understand. However, if these people are interested in living the Second Amendment (2A) lifestyle of owning and carrying firearms, I believe there is a lot more that should come first. This article contains five handgun manipulation skills that can easily be practiced at home (with an unloaded gun while adhering to the four firearm safety rules), which I think are essential to becoming a respected person in the 2A community.
Have you ever thought to yourself, “What would I do if there was an event or accident in my school, at work, at this concert or in this store?” Do you know how to apply a tourniquet, occlusive dressing or pack a wound? I, along with a team of trainers, teach the FASTER (Faculty, Administrator, Safety Training and Emergency Response) Saves Lives program in northeast Ohio. This program trains staff to carry firearms in schools. Adam Copley, our medical and firearms trainer, teaches lifesaving interventions. Regardless of whether or not you carry a firearm, the lifesaving interventions in this article may help you save someone’s life.
During one of 2023’s FASTER Saves Lives courses, a student (whom I’ll refer to as “Julie” since the student list is confidential) returned after having taken the same course a year prior.
